Casual Conversation: Medical Writing Careers with Yeshi Mikyas, PhD, Director of Medical Communications @ MedImmune, LLC

Yeshi Mikyas, PhD, is a Director of Medical Communications at MedImmune, LLC, where she oversees the production of Regulatory documents and Publications for the Infectious Diseases/Vaccines and Oncology therapeutic areas in MedImmune’s portfolio of drugs. Her responsibilities in her past positions include Medical Writing (Publications), Safety Science/Regulatory Writing, and Publication Lead.

Yeshi received both her graduate degree in Molecular and Medical Pharmacology and her undergraduate degree in Biology from the University of California, Los Angeles. She is a faculty member at the University of California, San Diego Medical Writing Certificate Program. She’s also lead several workshops and session at AMWA, and presented at “alternate career” panels at UCLA and NCI. Her career in Medical Writing started after a short period as a postdoctoral fellow working in HIV Immunology. She acknowledges that making the decision to move from an academic career to Medical Writing was initially not an easy one, but one she’s never regretted. Medical Writing allows her to stay close to the science she loves, while being able to communicate scientific data to appropriate audiences.
